Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch urodził się 19 lipca 1976 roku w Londynie. Jest brytyjskim aktorem teatralnym, telewizyjnym, filmowym oraz producentem, współwłaścicielem wytwórni SunnyMarch. Przez królową brytyjską odznaczony w 2015 roku tytułem Komandor Orderu Imperium Brytyjskiego CBE. W styczniu 2018 objął stanowisko President of London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (Londyńska Akademia Muzyki i Sztuk Dramatycznych).
Na świecie zasłynął rolą Sherlocka Holmesa w serialu "Sherlock" (emitowany przez stację BBC).
Dwukrotnie nominowany do Oscara dla najlepszego aktora za role: Alana Turinga w "Grze
tajemnic" (2015) i Phila Burbanka w "Psich pazurach" (2022),
Nagrodzony nagrodą BAFTA dla najlepszego aktora za rolę Patricka Melrose w miniserialu
